Review of Timi's Retreat – Muay Thai & Adventure Retreat from a Complete Beginner’s Perspective

Updated: May 28

If someone had told me a few months ago that I’d end up at a Muay Thai retreat in Thailand, I would have laughed. Me? Martial arts? The closest I had ever come to it was putting on boxing gloves for a fitness class… and even then, I wasn’t exactly throwing serious punches.

And yet, somehow, I found myself there—at a retreat where we trained together every morning, beginners and experienced fighters side by side. Everyone could challenge themselves at their own level, and the rest of the day was spent adventuring.

After the morning training and a quick freshen-up, we gathered for brunch before heading out to explore: bamboo rafting, waterfall hikes, kayaking, visiting James Bond Island—every single day brought something new. Evenings were spent over dinner, sharing stories with people from all over the world—America, England, Hungary, Mexico, Spain… and the list goes on.

Regarding Muay Thai!? The first two days, I felt a bit clumsy, trying to remember the punches, kicks, and their names. But everyone was so patient, and being surrounded by other beginners made me feel completely at ease. By the third day, everything started to feel much more natural, and by the last few days, I was ready to take on anything—bring on the lions! I absolutely loved it, especially the kicks.

We were provided with all the gear we needed—and even more! Timi, the organizer of the retreat, had a personalized surprise for each of us, which was such a thoughtful and touching gesture.

This was a truly special experience. We arrived as strangers but left as friends. There was so much laughter, stories and life experiences were shared, and I got to see the world from a new perspective.

Timi is a digital nomad traveling the world—so it’s no surprise that so many like-minded, fascinating people are drawn to her retreats. As a Hungarian Muay Thai Champion who also runs her business online, she has created Wander Warriors by combining her three biggest passions: travel, community, and Muay Thai.

She paid attention to every little detail. It didn’t matter if you were a complete beginner or had years of experience—there was space for everyone, and no one was left behind.

And here’s what I took away from it all: we tend to stick to our comfort zones because they feel safe. But how many times in life does something unexpected take us in a direction we never planned for?

That’s exactly what this retreat was for me. Not just a vacation, not just an adventure, but a reminder that sometimes the best experiences are the ones we never saw coming.

New experiences, new challenges are waiting in 2025 in the Canary Islands!I genuinely recommend it.

Thank you, Timi! ❤️ And thanks to every single one of you!
